Miss
Froehlich and Miss Dolley
My
name is Beverly Ann (Sarah) Froehlich. I moved
to Virginia from Phoenix, Arizona in June, 2004. My
arrival was more recent than prior generations of my family.
Many came to Virginia in 1692. My younger brother also lives here with his
wife, Beth. Beth is a school nurse in Stafford
Virginia. I am so happy
to be back in Virginia near my family in Fredericksburg,
Virginia.

I have been teaching for two decades. In Phoenix, I
was a bilingual teacher for grades K, 1, 2, 3 and 5. In
Stafford County, I taught first grade for two years.
In September, 2006, I will join the faculty and staff at
Triangle Elementary School in Prince William County, Virginia as
a first grade teacher and fifth grade American history I.
Additionally, I have taught preschool and elementary special
education. My undergraduate degree is from Xavier
University in Cincinnati, Ohio. While in Arizona, I
completed my master's degree in bilingual special education in
1989. The most challenging and rewarding professional
growth was becoming a National Board Certified Teacher (early
childhood) in November, 2003. I love my profession
especially making history come alive. It is amazing to witness the
growth a student makes in such a short time.
In September, 2007, moved to fifth grade. New
experiences are challenging but provide a wonderful time for
personal and professional growth. I will be teaching
social studies and one block of language arts this year at
Triangle Elementary School. I love history and look
forward to sharing my passion for history and creating some
historical excitement with my new students. Additionally, I
have taught civics and the We the People program at the middle
school level. Currently, I am a special education
teacher/intervention in a resource setting at an elementary
school in Arizona.

The pug picture on this page is Miss Dolley. She is named
after Dolley Madison. Dolley is a real clown. In
July, 2006, Dolley's cousin, Eleanor Roosevelt, (a pug) came home
with her from Phoenix, Arizona. We all drove back together
and it was a fun adventure for all. Two of my three daughters
live away from Virginia. My oldest daughter,
Stephanie, is an assistant principal in Arizona.
Jennifer, newly married, lives in California and is in nursing
school. Caroline
recently graduated from the University of Arizona and moved to
Virginia. . I also have a grandson, Matthew, who is 6 years
old and a granddaughter, Rylan, age 2. My daughters are my best work in life outside of
teaching.

In 2008-2009 I was a middle school civics teacher at Fred Lynn
in Prince William County, Virginia. During this time, I was very
involved with a great program called We the People sponsored by
the Center for Civic Education. My students truly gained
some wonderful learning experiences and gained in
self-confidence and personal growth. They competed in
classroom and regional congressional debates in Virginia.
The We the People program of study is remarkable and all
civics/history teachers should incorporate this in their
classroom instruction and practice. It is the best method of
learning for all students. Teachers who are interested
should contact their local We the People state coordinator for
information. You will absolutely fall in love with We the
People. Due to my return to Phoenix, I do not have a
classroom group to sponsor this year. However, I am still
encouraging other teachers and students to get involved.
