Civil War and Reconstruction Primary Documents

The most time consuming task in unit and lesson preparation is the selection of primary (first, second, third order) documents.  The examples on this page are a few of my students investigate in our SOL 9 (Civil War) unit of study.  I usually create a power point presentation including content, graphs, and pictures for each lesson.  In other lessons, students use the documents to sort, discuss, and make inferences about time, place, problem, events, etc.  As you search for your documents, save anything you find.  It is easier to delete later than to try to add to your collection.  The pictures on this page may be enlarged or reduced as you seem appropriate for your instructional needs.
