CONSTITUTION AND BILL OF RIGHTS
BOOK RESOURCES
Welcome to my book shelf. The list of books on this page are a few
of the resources that I have incorporated in my instructional planning
and have used as student resources for research. Although the list
is primarily for elementary level social studies, the materials are
adaptable for older students who are less proficient readers or English
as a second language learners. Although I use primary source
documents in my classroom, the resource books listed on this page
support student learning. Additionally, the materials provide
information that enable students to develop deeper understandings of the
concepts of the primary source materials. As I find more
materials, I will add to the list. To review a book, click on the
book cover. This will be a direct link to the book at Amazon.com.
BILL OF RIGHTS RESOURCES

THE
BILL OF RIGHTS FOR REAL LIFE
This is an excellent resource available through the Bill of
Rights Institute. It would be challenging for fifth grade
but can be adapted. There are CDs that accompany the book. |

CONSTITUTION
RESOURCES

I
love this book! My students enjoy the humor in the
story. I have used this book with first grade but would
not hesitate using the material for upper grades/middle
school. Check out the story at Amazon. It will
capture their attention and they will remember the concepts. |
Chester the Crab
Series
 |
The
Chester series of books for history/social studies are
fun! The information is factual but presented in a comic
strip format. There are teacher's guides for each
book. I have used this book as well as the Civil War and
Revolutionary War Chester books. |
Founding Fathers
Resources
 |
I
have use the Founders books in cooperative activities.
Both books are great resources for the students to understand
the views of the Signers. |
 |
Two
books that I will be using and highly recommend are available
through the Bill of Rights Institute. The books are:
Founders and The Constitution, In Their Own Words, Volume 1
and Volume 2. The books have stories about the unique roles
of the Founders as well as lesson activities, reading
comprehension and vocabulary. The national history strands
are listed for each objective, student resources, and
suggestions for extended activities. I received the books
as a participant at the Bill of Rights Institute but had the
books on my to purchase wish list. |
