CLASSROOM COMMUNITY BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
Our students are members of a classroom and school community. As responsible community members, we work together to establish our goals for appropriate behavior and making responsible choices. During the first few weeks of school, students in our classroom will be working together to discuss and write our "pledge" to each other in making this year a successful and safe learning experience for all students. These concepts are based on an approach and philosophy called Responsive Classroom. This approach enables children to develop academically and socially in a positive, safe, and joyful classroom community, as they interact with others in a caring and respectful manner. This approach consists of practical strategies for bringing together social and academic learning throughout the school day. Another underlying belief is that academic learning happens best within a positive social context. In our school community, we learn and practice the values of caring, responsibility, and treating others in a respectful and caring manner. To be successful, children need to explore and construct their learning in a safe, secure environment. To foster this atmosphere, children who disrupt learning or are abusive to other students will not tolerated. In accordance with the Prince William County School District policy, any severe threats, weapons or other forms of endangerment to school property or others will be directed to our principal, Mr. Marinoble. When our final classroom community behavior expectations to each other is published, it will be sent home with your child. As you discuss these rules of kindness and responsible behavior with your child, please ask him/her to explain the steps and importance in formulating our behavior plan. I will also post the final plan on this web page. Children are proud when they have accomplished their goals by doing their best each day. This poem will be one of the first poems your child will learn as we develop the concepts of a pledge, respect and caring for members of our community, being responsible citizens and learners, and fairness.
