George Washington Books and Resources

There are many great books, both fiction and nonfiction, that discuss the life of George Washington and the Revolutionary War.  The books listed on this site I have used in my classroom during shared and guided reading.  The leveled reading experiences integrate with our social studies discussions and writer's workshop.  When kids can share the ideas they have learned in their reading and all converse using a common language, the learning blooms.  To me the most important component in the development of the curriculum, concepts, and activities in this unit is the literature. That is where I spend my time and, of course, way too much money. Examples of lessons that incorporate the books are on the George Washington page of this site.

To review the books, click the mouse on the cover.  This will link you to Amazon.com.  Any book purchased will support the cost of maintaining this web domain.  As I frequently review new social studies literature, I will add the books that are historically accurate and appropriate for elementary children.
