                      Ms. Froehlich's First Grade

The following are a few examples of our activities using nursery rhymes.

                            The Curriculum Fair Mural

The mural has our telling time clock, Little Bo Peep, Humpty Dumpty, Little Miss Muffet, and Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater.  The art work was a product of a resource book, Teaching Little Children (TLC), by Espinoza and McCormick. Additional information on this resource can be found in the resource section.  Each student is making a "Nursery Rhyme Book".  This is a project that will continue for the entire academic year.  The books are displayed on the table.  Additional activities for phonics manipulatives using rhymes are on the table.  Pictures will be added of these projects soon.

                      Nursery Rhymes on Charts

The rhymes are all written with illustrations on charts.  The charts (lined tag board) are kept together with large rings.  The charts hang on one of the pocket charts.  Since there are so many pages to the rhyme chart center, the pocket chart stand is made from PVC pipe which is more stable.

Students use the rhyme charts for shared reading, center activities, and individual reading.  The rhymes are used all year long depending on the particular language or phonics skill in the mini-lesson.
