Junie B. Jones Chapter Three

                    Activities            

                         

 

                       Compare and Contrast:

  Students read/listen to the story and identify words that describe what Junie B. saw, felt, touched, smelled, and heard on her bus ride to school.

   Make a chart on butcher paper or chart paper.  At the top of the chart, list the words: 

     Hear    Smell     Touch     Saw     Felt

  After reading the story, complete the chart with words students dictate based on information in the chapter.

   Write sentences about each category using words from the chart.  Model, talk about what you are writing, mechanics and concepts. 

    Extension:  Make a class book about Junie B.'s trip to school on the bus.  Have students work alone or with partners to illustrate and write about one of the sensations.

              The Backpack

   Jim had a blue backpack.  How did Junie B feel about backpacks?  What happened when Junie B found a red backpack in a trash can? 

  What is your favorite kind of backpack?  Draw this backpack.  Write/dictate a sentence about the backpack. 

               Story Elements

            What was the problem in this chapter?

   Name the characters.  Tell what each character did in the chapter that upset Junie B.(cause and effect).

                Bus Breath

  What is "bus breath"?  Think of a list of words that would describe bus breath.  Draw a bus with bus breath.  Then, write a speech bubble about what you would say about this smell.
