Mesopotamia
is one of the world's oldest civilizations. The word,
Mesopotamia, means "the land between the rivers. This
area was located between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in the
Middle East. This area of land is also known as the
"Fertile Crescent" because of the good soil and water
resources. With these natural resources the people could
grow food and feed their increasing population. In this
unit you will encounter many different influences that affected
the development of this area. You will see all of
the themes of social studies (culture, interactions, conflict,
etc) as this area "changed hands" with rulers
throughout history. It is an exciting time of change
and technological advancement.
On this page you will find additional resources to help you
pursue a deeper understanding of Mesopotamia as well as our
interactive notebook activities, links for games, primary
resources, and more. Check each week for additional
material to be added. Enjoy the new learning and always
reflect about the big picture, or the "so what"
aspects of the ideas and themes.
