The Inuit

By: Miss Froehlich

(Tune: Muffin Man)

The Inuit live in the Northwest,

Alaska to Canada

The cold climate of ice and snow

It’s freezing there, don’t you know

Ice they used for winter homes,

An igloo is nice with it’s round-shaped dome.

In summer hides will be just right,

Our tundra home under stars at night.

Fishing in the Arctic sea,

For salmon, whale, and seal for me.

With canoes and harpoons ready to go,

Fur skins warm us up from head to toe.

KWAKIUTL TRIBE

By: Miss Froehlich

(Chant)

The Kwakiult tribe from the Northwest Coast

Lived from Alaska to California along the Pacific Coast.

The climate there was as mild as can be

But it rained most of the year.

On the land and sea.

Forests there of birch and cedar trees

We used for large wooden homes that you can see.

Our totem poles are large and tall

We know they are the best of all.

We hunt for fish and salmon in our streams

Deer and elk in the forest are a dream.

The rain won’t hurt us, we don’t need an ark,

We make raincoats and hats from cedar bark.

Our masks may be different and we like our dance

Watch out for the raven and don’t take a chance.

We are the Kwakiult tribe of the Northwest Coast

Come visit us, we will be a great host.
