I am James Nunley. I live in the State of Virginia. What would a big central government do for me? Those people far away from Virginia don’t know what I need.

The changes in our country since King George III are great. But, I worry about having one person in power in our government and calling himself, "President". This person may begin to act like the King and make unfair demands and laws on the states.

Why should we have a national bank? Why should my money not stay in a state bank? There is nothing in the Constitution that permits Hamilton in making a national bank. Another plan to make the rich even richer!

If our country does not support farmers, what will the people to for food and materials in their cities? Farming is like living close to heaven. All farmers need a government that supports their hard work.

The states have had so much power and look what happened under the Articles of Confederation! We need a common currency and courts that will help settle our problems. The state of Pennsylvania has taxed us to death! We need a central government to make laws to end this mess!

My name is Josiah Smith. I am tired of sending my cotton to England to have it made into cloth. Then, I have to pay taxes again to get the cloth to this country. We need a government that will promote industry here. Why should England still get our money? We won our freedom and should keep our money at home.

Trade between the states is horrible. Each state makes the its own tax and you never know what you are going to pay. Our state governments do not control this taxing situation. We need a government that will make laws for all states so we can be fair to each other. If we don’t get this, trade between the states will die.

My name is Samuel Purdy. I am a printer in Virginia. This is a small, family business that has done well for many years. I worry that my small business may become weak if our government only favors or wants big business in this country. I think small business need more support from our government

My name is John Rush. I want my business to grow and expand. Small business people will never get ahead unless our government makes industry grow. We need a government with a vision of the future, not one that keeps us poor dirt farmers or stuck in a small business. With new technology and better ways to make things, small business people can make their business bigger and earn more money.

If this government is going to be in favor of the rich, we will simply be a child of England again. The King was powerful the rich people told us what to do. This kept us poor. We need a government that represents all people. How can a rich person from this state know what I need? The government that has too much power will keep the poor, poor and the rich, rich. Why did we fight for freedom?
