As a parent and
teacher, we establish educational and social expectations for our
children. Our first grade class will be your family during the coming months of
this school year. Our classroom learning environment is
stimulating, safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate. I believe that children
should practice consideration, responsibility and respect for all people.
I hope that the following ideas will provide some clarification about my beliefs
and expectations regarding the academic and social development of your child.
I have high expectations for ALL children.
Children need an educational environment that fosters their intrinsic desire to
learn and a willingness to take learning risks. They begin to believe in
themselves and their own potential when they can say, "I can."
The phrase, "I can't do it" does not have a purpose. We can do
our best each day.
Children need a developmentally appropriate curriculum. To achieve this
goal, they need an educational environment that is stimulating and interesting.
They need to learn to make responsible choices, question, and construct their
own knowledge.
Children can learn skills but developing a love of learning is enduring. To accomplish this goal, children
are provided opportunities to develop self
confidence as they engage in learning tasks that foster thinking, problem
solving, and inquiry.
Respect, consideration, and friendship are values that are important in first
grade as well as in the world today. Our first graders will develop
these social understandings,
practice and follow rules as they treat all people with dignity and respect.
Children learn best through diverse learning experiences that reflect all
modalities. Learning is most successful through social interactions with diverse
groups.
Each child
is blessed with special gifts and talents. Therefore, we
respect this diversity focusing on the strengths of each
individual.
Learning is a life journey. An educationally engaging environment fosters this love for learning.
Each child has the right to learn in a safe and secure environment. Children
should be encouraged to support and respect the learning
environment and rights of others.
I
have an open door communication policy between our classroom and your home.
Communication is important in the educational progress of your child. I
encourage parents to support the educational experiences of their child.
