AMOS THE MOOSE FROM MAINE

Dear Friends in Maine,

I finally arrived in Phoenix, Arizona on May 20, 2002.  The kids were so happy to see me.  On Monday, the principal brought a big box to the classroom.  The kids were so excited because they knew I was about to arrive.  They had another big surprise.  Fanny Fox, their mascot, was traveling with me.  WOW!   We sure celebrated and had a very happy time.

My stay will not be long in Phoenix, Arizona but I am sending some pictures of my visit.  More "goodies" will come in the box when I return to my wonderful friends in Maine.  Oh, I think the chile peppers may be a bit too much for my friends in Maine.  Sure made my antlers curl.. just like the story in the book Moustache,

My First Picture in Phoenix, Arizona

This is me with the first grade class in at Palm Lane Elementary School.  I was really confused when the teacher took me out of the bag.  There was a lot of fast talking in Spanish.  OLE!  What fun.

In the morning, I helped the teacher, Miss Froehlich, and the students with their Morning Meeting.  This is me leading the reading of the May Good Morning Poem.

The Morning Meeting With Amos Moose

Can you see me?  I am sitting on the shoulder of Katalena Matalena.  This is one of the favorite songs in Room 30.  The poem next to Katalena is the good morning poem.  I said good morning to pinatas green and white.

                         Amos and Ba-Ba-Lu

Next, I was able to meet a fun bear named Ba-Ba-Lu.  Now, you guys are way too young to remember Dezi Arnaz from I Love Lucy.  On a field trip the kids made this class bear.  Miss Froehlich loves the old I Love Lucy shows so the kids picked the name, Ba-Ba-Lu when their bear was born in January.

                             Working in the Office

Next, the kids took me on a tour of Palm Lane School.  There are some very friendly people at this school.  The office is a busy place but the school secretary can do more work in one day than some people can do in a week.  Mrs. Marlow is also very funny.  She let me sit by her computer.

The office is a busy place.  I met some other interesting people here also.  The next person I met was Mr. Mauran, the principal of Palm Lane School.  He was  working an important document..... something about managing a site. He let me sit on his shoulders to read about management.  Boys and girls, this was way over my antlers.

                                Amos and the Nurse

The school nurse is such a sweetheart.  She was helping many kids in her office.  She would really take care of me if I broke one of my antlers.

                       Amos's Nursery Rhyme Art Project

This class is having so much fun.  Even though next week is the last week of school the kids seem to still be eager to learn and do many fun projects.  They love to read and sing nursery rhymes.  Today, we made an art project for the rhyme, "Mary Had A Little Lamb."  You sure have to listen and follow directions.  I did not get any glue in my antlers and was a good helper to my new friends.

Well, this has certainly been a busy first day at Palm Lane School.  The kids in Room 30 send a special hello... "hola" to their new friends.. "a sus nuestros amigo en Maine."

I will write more tomorrow.  I miss you all but will be home very soon.

                             Love,

                             Amos

   Dear Kids,

The end of my first and only week in Phoenix, Arizona.  The kids wrote notes to all of you in my special scrapbook.  This weekend, the teacher took me to her house to meet her special friends.  She has a dog and some moose friends.  This is a picture of my two new moose friends.

Then I got to meet her special dog.. Woobie.  This dog is very spoiled.  She  has her own water jug.

                                               Amos in the Orange Tree

Can you find me?  I am sitting in an orange tree.  Arizona is known for citrus, copper, cattle, and cotton.  This orange is not ready to be picked yet.  It is green.  This weekend I had barbeque and salsa on the patio.  YUM!

Well, kids, I miss you very much.  I will write more this weekend.  The teacher is going to help me put my special treasures from Phoenix together in my scrapbook.  She is also sending all of you a wonderful coloring book about the State of Arizona.

Happy Memorial Day to you guys back in Maine.

                    Love,

                    Amos
