WESTWARD EXPANSION SOL 8B

This page will have a few resources for teachers and students that are appropriate for creating interactive notebooks, concept sorts, and graphic organizers.  When my students work with authentic images, diaries, etc from the historical period, they are able to develop and apply history thinking skills.  The pictures below are a few that I use as both an introduction (tell me what story the pictures are telling you), a concept sort or picture reinforcement for their interactive notebook and summarization.

                              PICTURES REFLECTING PIONEER MOTIVATION

Directions:  Divide your paper into two columns.  Write "geographic" on one side of the "T-chart" and "economic" on the other side of the "T" chart.  When you are finished, summarize the concepts you have learned by writing a summary of the motivations settlers had in moving to the west or write as a settler in a diary or journal format.
