New territories added to the Unites States after 1801 were:

1.        Louisiana Purchase

·          Jefferson bought land from France (the Louisiana Purchase) with doubled the size of the U.S.

·         In the Lewis and Clark expedition, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark explored the Louisiana Purchase from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean.

2.        Florida

·          Spain gave Florida to the U.S. through a treaty.

3.        Texas:

·         Texas was added after it became an independent republic

4.        Oregon

·          The Oregon Territory was divided by the U.S. and Great Britain

5.        California

·         War with Mexico resulted in California and the southwest territory becoming part of the U.SD.
